East Side Youth Fellows

The East Austin Youth Fellowship equips BIPOC youth from East Austin with leadership and organizing skills to reclaim their stories, and build community owned systems.

East Side Youth Fellows

East Austin has a history of youth development through our community and recreation centers but has lost this focus as the neighborhood faces gentrification and displacement. The East Austin Youth Fellowship is an 8-month program that will develop leadership skills in Black, Indigenous, and Latine youth from East Austin. Our facilitators provide weekly political education lessons and provide guidance as our fellows develop campaigns based on community needs and in partnership with other grassroots organizations. Our fellows, ages 14-18, get paid $20/hour.

We are also partnering with East Side Memorial High School's AVID program to support 116 students with tutoring, academic support, workforce development/pathways, graduation planning, arts and civic education.

“The fellowship has strengthened my ability to organize within my community by giving me the confidence and skills to do various things from sharing my opinions, offering ideas, leading a protest, and speaking in front of people. Along the way, I’ve gained new experiences and built meaningful connections, so now I feel supported and confident in moving forward with my organizing work."
