Environmental Justice 101: History of Redlining and Environmental Racism
In this lesson, we examine environmental justice components of redlining and its historical and contemporary public health impacts in urban communities. Students will learn about the term environmental racism, and apply it to a mapping activity that follows the case study city from historical redlining maps to present day racial and environmental justice data. Students will conclude by considering their own experiences with environmental justice and environmental racism in a power poetry activity.
