The Politics of Pipelines (Indigenous Resistance)

In this lesson, we further explores perspectives of land and the environment, through an in-depth understanding of the Standing Rock Sioux resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) project. Students will learn about the history of the DAPL, who and what it impacts, and consider strengths and setbacks of the movement. Students will look closer at some specific stories and examples from youth activists and consider what methods were used to build and sustain the DAPL movement. Finally, students will identify strategies for effective, safe, and supportive community organizing that they can carry into their own practice as activists.
